The Saudi-backed LIV Golf Invitational Series is making the headlines. However, there is not much known about the league led by Greg Norman. The Australian golfer recently clarified that no top professional golfers will join the series. But at the same time, he has also said that a full 48-player field will tee off in June. 

Even though the majority of the fans believe the primary purpose behind this rival league is money. However, Norman is persistently saying he wants to grow the game. “I’ve always said from the outset I want to grow the game of golf the best way we possibly can for all levels,” said Norman.

Moreover, he gave the example of the Shark Shootout, which is a team event in Naples, Florida. Greg said he always tries to invite rookies or younger players to this tournament. 

How Greg Norman plans to take the LIV Golf Invitational forward

Norman says that there will be a full field of 48 players, and the series is all set to begin on June 9th at the Centurion Club in London. Moreover, they have left the plans of having pro golfers from the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour. Hence, they are inviting amateurs and youngsters to join this league this year.

There are eight events this year that will have $25 million purses. And going forward they will increase the events from eight to ten next year as currently, they want to see how things work out this year.

However, going forward, Norman has a different vision. “We will be doing it like this for the next two years,” he said. “We have eight invitational series events this year, 10 next year. And we will do thorough testing of how everything works. We will still do team events, and then the league will be up and running in 2024.”

Hence, the Australian golfer is determined to grow the game concept, and he revealed that they are in talks with the 15-year-old Ratchanon Chantananuwat from Thailand. However, he did not disclose any other names, but they have contacted plenty of amateur golfers.
