Did Bryson DeChambeau just reignite his rivalry with Rory McIlroy? We all know the story of how, despite being a favorite to win, DeChambeau fumbled in the final round of the 2025 Masters. We are also aware of McIlroy’s magnificent triumph at Augusta National. The story has been told many times over the past few weeks. Another headline that did create a lot of buzz back then was the LIV Golf pro’s claim that the Irishman ignored him in the final round at ANGC.
As distraught as Bryson was, his claims were debunked as footage showed the two did have a conversation before the beginning of a round. Despite that, the Irishman didn’t shy away from revealing his mindset going into the final round at Augusta National. McIlroy stated, “I’m not going to look at what my playing partner’s doing. I’m not going to look at the leaderboard. I’m literally going to try to get into my own world.”
The 36-year-old’s goal during the last 18 holes was only to focus on winning and get that much-eluded Green Jacket. Looking at his playing partner’s game would have been a major distraction for him. But that didn’t resolve the tension between the two great golfers. With another battle between the two lined up at Quail Hollow, DeChambeau shared his thoughts about what he expects to see in the 2025 PGA Championship.

Sky Sports Golf tweeted a video of Bryson DeChambeau’s interview hours before tee-off with a caption that read, “Bryson DeChambeau is hoping for another final day face-off with Rory McIlroy 👥.” You read that right! DeChambeau wants another battle with McIlroy in the final round of the 2025 PGA Championship. In the interview, he said, “I do believe you have to have a lot of distance out here,” speaking about the long-range fairways of the Quail Hollow Country and Golf Club.
This gave DeChambeau the opening to bring McIlroy into the conversation. He added, “Rory is a great driver of the golf ball, and his iron play is great too. I think it’s a golf course that sets up for his shot shapes really well. I think it sets up well for mine, too,” drawing a parallel between himself and the 29-time PGA Tour winner. Both Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau are excellent drivers of the ball and are well known for their long-distance tee shots that average higher than others. Both of them average around 320-330 yards.
Coming back to their chances at the 2025 PGA Championship, the LIV Golf player stated, “I’m surely going to give it my all. I know Rory is. Hopefully, we can have another go at it again like the Masters.” Clearly, DeChambeau is coming for blood after a tough defeat at the hands of McIlroy at Augusta National.

Rory McIlroy vs. Bryson DeChambeau: Battle of the beasts
Rory McIlroy has had an outstanding season so far. He has won three PGA Tour events, including the 2025 Masters Tournament, which made him a Grand Slam champion. Bryson DeChambeau has also been in great form recently. While he may have only won at LIV Golf Korea, the Dallas local came close to capturing four consecutive titles. DeChambeau led the leaderboard going into the third round at Miami and Mexico City before giving up the lead in the last 18 holes. His fourth would have been at Augusta National, where he also experienced a last-round fumble.

However, as far as the contest between McIlroy and DeChambeau goes, the scores are currently tied. The American delivered a huge blow to the Irishman’s attempt to win the U.S. Open at Pinehurst in 2024. McIlroy leveled the score by beating DeChambeau at Augusta National. Interestingly, both of them had a dreadful final round for the other to lift the title. In the 2024 U.S. Open, McIlroy blundered the last 18 holes to gift the win to DeChambeau. The Irishman had victory in his pocket before he managed three bogeys in the last four holes to lose the potential fifth major of his career. DeChambeau returned the favor at Augusta National in 2025. Despite McIlroy missing the mark in the first few holes on Sunday, Bryson just couldn’t take advantage of the opportunity to grab his first Green Jacket, and went three over par in the final round to finish in 5th.
If the fourth round of the 2025 PGA Championship is a battle between them, then the winner will not only win the major but also the debate about who is the bigger beast. With only a few hours left to tee off, who will you place your money on at Quail Hollow?
