‘I’m Going To Get Lambasted’: Greg Norman Had No Problem Creating Controversy With His Heated ‘Overrated’ Comments Once

Professional golfers get the privilege to play at some of the most excellent courses around the world. Greg Norman, who many regards as one of the greats, has been in the top flight of golf for the past four decades. However, once the Hall of Famer was asked about the most overrated golf course according to him. His answer may surprise you.

Long before his duties to as the CEO of LIV Golf, Norman had one of the most illustrious golf careers. The 67-year-old has two Majors to his name and was ranked number one in the World Golf rankings for 331 weeks. With being exposed to so much experience, which golf course does the Shark feel isn’t up to the hype?

Greg Norman isn’t a fan of the no. 1 public golf course in the United States

In 2016, the Aussie golfing legend was interviewed by Australian Golf Digest. During the conversation, Norman was surprised by the interviewer’s question. “Oh, wow … Geez … No one has ever really asked me that”, chuckled the White Shark when the journalist asked him to name the most overrated golf course in the world.

Before revealing his big reply, the LIV CEO was aware of the backlash he’ll receive for it. “I’m going to get lambasted for this”, he said. Nonetheless, Greg Norman then followed with his answer. “I think Pebble Beach is a little overrated”, Norman revealed. He further added, “I think Pebble Beach has 13 magnificent holes – and five very average holes”.

The legendary golf course has been home to six US Opens in the past, and also was unanimously regarded as the best public golf course in the United States. Despite all that, it failed to win the heart of the Australian golfer. Norman further provided the reasoning behind his answer.

He pointed out to takeout the beautiful scenic view of the Californian golf course. “I think you have to take away the scenic beauty (from each) and focus on playability; how the golf course flows”. The White Shark missed the cut at the 2000 US Open when Pebble Beach hosted its first Major in nearly a decade.

The course hosts its annual AT&T Pro-am tournament. Norman was a frequent visitor previously, however, following his move to LIV Golf, his presence at PGA Tour events is widely omitted. Nonetheless, since the White Shark isn’t a fan of the golf course, he wouldn’t mind being uninvited.
