Where’s Scottie Scheffler? No, this is not a golf-themed ‘Where’s Waldo?’ game. The world No. 1 has gone missing from the field. Just to clarify, we’re not talking about the field on TPC Craig Ranch. There, Scheffler is clearly sitting at the top of the table, far away from anyone’s reach. He is on the path to finally winning his first PGA Tour event of the season. And it is as close to home as it can get at McKinney, Texas. But will Scheffler be homebound for the next 10 days as well?

It certainly seems so. PGA Tour Communications released the field for the sixth Signature event of the season, the Truist Championship. The field is absolutely packed, with only six players from the top 50 on the OWGR missing from it. Obviously, Bryson DeChambeau, Tyrrell Hatton, and Patrick Reed can’t play in the PGA Tour event. Billy Horschel withdrew from the 2025 Zurich Classic in New Orleans as he was recovering from an injury. He hasn’t been in action since the 2025 RBC Heritage. Tom Kim is also not on the field for some unknown reason. But the biggest name missing from the field for the Signature event is Scottie Scheffler.

The event played in the Philadelphia Cricket Club’s Wissahickon Course will immediately follow the ongoing CJ Cup Byron Nelson. As Scheffler is already leading the field here, you would think he would want to carry the momentum onto next week’s Signature event, especially before the PGA Championship. But he has decided to stay back in Texas while his peers travel to Pennsylvania. This is not the first time Scheffler has decided to skip the tournament. He did so in 2024 as well. In fact, the 13-time PGA Tour winner has never played in the tournament in his career.

Interestingly, one of Scheffler’s peers who did make the field is Alex Noren. The Swede has been out of action for nearly 9 months. He had a lingering neck injury all through this time and had been sitting on the sidelines recovering. But now, Noren is back on the PGA Tour and aims to impress everyone in the 2025 Truist Championship. Still at world no. 67, his inclusion in the field surprised everyone nearly as much as the world no. 1’s absence. He will be looking to make his mark at the $20M, no-cut event.

With the world No. 2 and defending champion, Rory McIlroy, who won the event for the record fourth time last year, leading the field at the Truist Championship, everyone had something to say about Scheffler’s absence.

Scottie Scheffler’s absence and Alex Noren’s return receive mixed reactions

Not having the world No. 1 playing in a PGA Tour Signature event might prove to be a headache for Jay Monahan. Netizens have already started questioning the decision as they wonder why Scottie Scheffler chose to play in the CJ Cup Byron Nelson instead of the Truist Championship. One of them said, “Surprised no Scottie…. Why did he bother playing CJ Cup Byron Nelson.” They were clearly perplexed about Scheffler’s choice of events. It could simply be because he didn’t want to play two back-to-back tournaments. But with him missing the Zurich Classic as well, maybe he could have planned his schedule better to play in a more competitive event before heading to Quail Hollow.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Scottie Scheffler's absence a strategic move, or is he missing out on crucial competition?

Have an interesting take?

Celebrating the return of the Swedish golfer, one fan commented, “@Jeff_Erickson Alex Noren is alive.”  There was another who also said, “Alex Noren is back!” They might have been shocked to learn that Noren is still playing PGA Tour events, as he hasn’t been in action since the BMW Championship in August 2024. Interestingly, he did play in the last edition of this event, finishing at T24 in 2024. There was another follower who probably turned the veteran golfer into a rare Pokémon found on the streets of Pallet Town. Their comment read, “Alex Noren sighting,” as if they were ready to throw a Pokéball at the 42-year-old.

Coming back to Scheffler, his absence has clearly left the fans frustrated. Not having the best golfer in the world in such a competitive field would probably upset anyone. They commented, “No Scottie 👎🏼 #refundmytickets,” asking for a refund to the Wissahickon Golf Course event. They also requested a refund on their tickets for the 2025 Truist Championship. A few more complaints about Jordan Spieth being listed as one of the alternate replacements.

Are you disappointed to see Scottie Scheffler missing the 2025 Truist Championship or happy to see Alex Noren back? You can choose both! Tell us what you think in the comments section.
