Is Harold Varner III part of the field at the 2023 PGA Championship?
After going pro in 2012, Harold Varner III played on the PGA Tour for quite some time before defecting to the Saudi-backed LIV Golf last year. His move surprised many, as it also shrouded his chances of appearing at major events in mystery.

Fans of the golfer, however, can now breathe a sigh of relief. The Ohio native will be making his second Major appearance of the year next week after his participation at the Augusta National in April. He currently stands at the 64th position on the Official World Golf Rankings, making him eligible to play at the 105th edition of the PGA Championship.
The PGA of America released its 155-player field on Wednesday, with one spot still up for grabs for the AT&T Byron Nelson winner. The highly competitive field boasts 99 of the top 100 players in the world. Besides Varner, 17 other LIV golfers have also made it to the list, including the likes of Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson, and Cameron Smith. However, many fans were surprised to see that LIV pro and 2017 Masters winner Sergio Garcia was missing from the recently-unveiled list.

Despite his recent outing, however, Garcia’s position in the OWGR has continued to drop. The golfer is currently at the 189th position in the rankings. This is the first time since 1999 that the golfer has failed to qualify for a major event. He had earlier missed out on the 2020 Masters due to Covid-19.
