Daly married and divorced four times. His married lives have been short with each of them. The longest Daly was married, it was to Sherrie Miller from 2001, whom he divorced later in 2010. However, it was the same marriage through which he was blessed with his son Daly II, and got attacked with a knife. According to BBC, “Daly met his wife at a golf tournament in 2001 and they married seven weeks later.” They further reported, “She was charged over alleged involvement in a drug ring and an illegal gambling operation in 2003, and was jailed for five months in January 2006.”

Following their divorce, Sherrie Miller was initially given the custody of Little John. But as months rolled in complaint about Sherrie Miller not abiding by the rules of visitation rights was brought up. And it was in December 2010, when John Daly got the full custody of his son and his ex-wife had to serve in the prison again. Since then, Daly II has been staying with his father. He was also taken on tours and was home-schooled. He had once said, “I don’t really remember too much from back then, other than I used to heckle the Tour guys on the putting greens.” Both of them reside in Arkansas, United States at present.

John Daly’s initiative for his eight-year-old son

By the time John Daly got the custody of his son, he was already 7 years old. However, the two-time Major winner noticed his son was not able to read or write despite being old enough. John Daly confessed a year later, “When I was first granted custody before last Christmas, Little John could hardly write or read.” Thus, he took it into his hands to teach his son and help him catch up with the innumerable kindergarten days the latter missed. He further claimed, “In just one year, I’ve got him through two grades. He was so far behind because his mother never got him through school.”

John Daly II was held back because he missed 84 days of kindergarten. Moreover, the father also discovered that Daly II has missed 25 days of his first grade as well. In a rush to make his son catch up, the elder Daly had “given Little John a structure”.
