The 2025 Genesis Invitational has seen some surprising names rise up to the leaderboard. The likes of Denny McCarthy, Davis Thompson, and Nicolas Echavarria have all given the top stars of the PGA Tour a tough fight. Interestingly, there is another new face among them that might intrigue many NFL fans. Patrick Rodgers ended round 3 of the Signature event by leading the table.

Why would that interest the football fans? Well, this is because Patrick Rodgers shares the same last name as the New York Jets quarterback, Aaron Rodgers. Makes you wonder, are they related to each other? After all, both are exceptional athletes in their respective sports.

Well, Aaron Rodgers’s career record may overshadow Patrick Rodgers’s achievements. The 41-year-old has been extremely consistent for around two decades and has been awarded multiple MVP awards for the same. His accurate passing is what makes him a great player for any team he plays at. Despite all the controversies, Rodgers is widely regarded as one of the best in his position in NFL history. A reason why he was retained by the Green Bay Packers for 17 years before switching to the New York Jets.

Patrick Rodgers, on the other hand, is still relatively young. However, the 32-year-old is yet to win the first PGA Tour event of his career. In his 15-year career of being a pro, he has come really close to winning, with 4 runners-up and 3 third-place finishes in his career. He also has 20 more top-10 performances. As of the 2025 season, Patrick is showing some serious promise by being at the top of the leaderboard in the Genesis. This may be his glory year.

But that brings us back to the question, are they related to each other? Well, we would like to clarify that despite having the same surname, Patrick Rodgers and Aaron Rodgers, in fact, do not have any family connections with each other.

Have Patrick Rodgers and Aaron Rodgers ever crossed paths?

Looking at things from Patrick Rodgers’s perspective, the Indiana local has shown interest in a number of other sports. He seems to be a big fan of Arsenal F.C., a soccer team from the English Premier League. He also follows basketball as he often retweets the posts of Indiana Pacers. Having completed his education at Stanford University, Patrick Rodgers also supports the Stanford Cardinals college football team. The pro golfer has also reposted a tweet of the Indianapolis Colts in 2023. But that is the furthest he has crossed over to football.

As far as Aaron Rodgers goes, he has a long history of collaborating in golf. In fact, the veteran quarterback even won the amateur event in the 2023 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am alongside golfer; Ben Silverman. More recently, Aaron Rodgers played in the 2025 Annexus Pro-Am event as a part of the WM Phoenix Open. He was partnered up with Scottie Scheffler, Charley Hoffman, Jay Monahan, CEO of Waste Management; Jim Fish, and CRO of Tennessee Titans; Adam Nuse. Interestingly, Patrick Rodgers was also a part of the tournament partnering with Billy Horschel and 4 amateur players.

So there is no question that Patrick Rodgers and Aaron Rodgers have crossed paths recently. They might have also gone head-to-head to compete in the 2025 Annexus Pro-Am in February. In fact, it wouldn’t be hard to assume that the two would have also shared a friendly banter with each other, in private. Especially, because Aaron Rodgers has already won a PGA Tour event while Patrick Rodgers hasn’t, quite an irony.
