Standing 6 ft 2 inches tall on the greens, Thomas Detry is a 31-year-old Belgian professional golfer who started playing golf at the age of 5. Besides golf, Detry also enjoyed tennis and hockey in his childhood. Although Detry has only 2 professional wins so far, he has already been in the top 15 at last year’s Open Championship, and in the 2024 PGA Championship, he finished at T4.

Although no dates or a timeline are known about when Detry got married, his wife’s identity has been revealed on several occasions as she frequently visits the greens with Detry. Married to Thomas Detry, Sarah has also given birth to a baby girl, whom they named Sophie. The Belgian golfer is often seen getting motivation from his family on the golf course, who travel with him.

Thomas Detry’s opinion about fatherhood

Before baby Sophie came into their lives, Detry expressed how much he expected and wished the blessing of parenthood to be lucky. According to News Now Nigeria, Detry had commented, “I’m waiting for the baby effect. Many athletes have excelled after becoming fathers, and I hope the same holds true for me.”

However, once Sophie was born, Detry indeed turned into a full-fledged family man. He stated how his family keeps his bad days on the greens in check. Detry reflected, “During my last tournament, I performed well on Friday, but the following two days were less successful. However, there’s a lovely family waiting for me at home now. Therefore, I’m less distraught when I don’t meet my usual standards. When I return home, I have other priorities to focus on.”

Although Thomas Detry is happily married to Sarah, there is one inconsistency in their lives: their residence. The Detry family has their residence in Dubai; however, for Thomas Detry’s career, they need to have a base in the USA.

Detry’s family lives out of a suitcase

Detry has previously expressed how they are changing places every week. He confessed, “Right now, we’re living out of a suitcase; we’re pretty much living week by week.” Then he further added, “I’ve got obviously my wife and my kids traveling with me as well, so it’s not that easy, but we make sure we get great houses, but we’re thinking of getting something, and obviously everything came really quick.”

Although Detry is traveling at the moment, he does have another option of residence in the United Kingdom, as his wife is from there. However, he expressed his intentions of settling down soon to continue with a stable life and career balance.
