She quipped the example of former Mexican golfer Lorena Ochoa, who was once one of the most dominant players on the LPGA Tour. She was the top-ranked female golfer in the world for 158 consecutive weeks for three years until she decided to retire from the sport.

Wie West claimed that she was inspired by Ochoa’s story, claiming she had the same plans after delivering her child. “I think she [Ochoa] was like 28 or something, got married and had kids and I was like, wow, that is like so cool,” she said. “And it’s just, I don’t know, it’s something that I have stuck in my mind.”

A baby girl changes Wie’s fortunes

Before giving birth to her child, Wie found out that she would soon be a mother of a baby girl. But becoming a mother of a girl changed her thoughts about retirement. “Everything that I see now I see differently and it’s just it’s crazy because I’ve heard that happening to my friends who are moms. And then I found out that it was a girl it just completely changed my perspective on the world,” she said.

“But yeah, I definitely want to play I want to play for different reasons now not just for my own self-goals and accomplishments, but I want her to see me play and I want her to see me work hard and be a strong woman…,” she exclaimed.
