Coming off the perfectly manicured grass of Augusta National, Bryson DeChambeau must have had high expectations from the venue of his next event, the LIV Golf Mexico City. Well, he was in for a rude shock as the course conditions at Club de Golf Chapultepec left him fuming.

A fan shared a video of DeChambeau ranting about the grass, or lack of it, around the green. The Crushers captain’s shot from the greenside bunker rolled toward the rough surrounding the green. When DeChambeau walked to the area, he saw nothing but patches of grass pockmarked by bare soil. He was baffled, vexed, and absolutely infuriated.

“You got destroyed grass. Oh, this is rough? Definitely good to see,” DeChambeau said sarcastically with visible annoyance washing over his face, “I’ll wait a second.”

Bryson DeChambeau asked for a rules official, hoping to get relief because of the abysmal course conditions. Once the official arrived, he didn’t hold back, “I’m talking about this ground. What is it called again? This entire area. You have got to have a rule here (to not play in the area). It’s unbelievable. Absolutely out of question.”

DeChambeau couldn’t seem to fathom the fact that this is what they call the rough in the Club de Golf Chapultepec. But his grievances yielded no result. He didn’t get a relief and eventually played his shot from there, clearly frustrated by what he had to deal with. You can watch the video below.

This isn’t the first time Bryson DeChambeau unloaded on the LIV Golf Mexico venue. His relationship with the course is on the same track as Lexi Thompson’s love affair with Evian Resort Golf Club. Last year, DeChambeau was aghast at the condition of the bunker at Club de Golf Chapultepec.

“Worst f–cking bunkers ever. The worst… Look! You have the f–cking thumbroller. What the hell. You can hurt someone’s wrist. You can break someone’s wrist. You can’t even get it [ball] out,” said the two-time U.S. Open champion while attempting to hit multiple bunker shots.

If DeChambeau believed his complaints to the course officials would compel them to take action, he was wrong. The bunkers might not have been better, but the rough is pretty rough here. His anger might have been compounded by another factor, however.

Reason behind Bryson DeChambeau’s frustration

It’s not that things are really going Bryson DeChambeau’s way recently. DeChambeau had some trouble with the bunker during both rounds he played at Augusta National last week. In the first round, he shot a triple bogey on the 11th hole after his ball was in the sand. He couldn’t chip it out and took three shots to find the green again. That pushed him from even par to 3-over for the round.

During the second round, it seemed like he would comfortably make the cut. But he got into trouble with the sand once again in the last hole on Friday. That took his score from 3-over to 6-over and knocked him out of the tournament. If that wasn’t enough, the golf community also teased him about learning how to make sand saves from Patrick Reed.

Lastly, the 32-year-old also must have a lot on his mind right now.

He has recently split with LA Golf, his long-time equipment partner. Then LIV itself has switched from 54 holes to 72 holes, and DeChambeau wasn’t happy about it. In addition, multiple reports claimed that PIF is slowly moving away from LIV and will stop funding the breakaway league altogether by the end of this year.

A now-deleted clip of LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil also revealed that funding is secure only till 2026. Rumors of LIV Golf shutting down have already spread like wildfire. Scott O’Neil doesn’t have a concrete plan. If LIV Golf folds, DeChambeau has to walk the walk of shame back to the PGA Tour, and his dreams of building Crushers GC to a franchise will collapse like a house of cards.

All of that has likely played a role in this week’s performance and his temper on the green. The 32-year-old, who has won five times on LIV, went on to card an even-par 71 on Thursday. On Friday, too, DeChambeau managed an even-par round, but on the moving day, he slipped to 2-over. After 72 holes, the two-time major winner is tied at 41st.
