Jon Rahm has been working hard for the challenge at Bethpage. In fact, he might have been pushing himself enough that he might have lost some weight. At least that is what some of the fans in New York seem to believe. Whether the Spaniard should take it as a compliment or not, we don’t know. But one of the reporters framed it as if the American fans were trying to heckle Rahm at Bethpage.

During the press conference preceding the 2025 Ryder Cup, Jon was asked about the fans teasing him about using the weight-loss drug Ozempic. Rahm told the journalist, “Yeah, first shot in the practice rounds, yeah. I don’t know exactly what he said, but I think what he said was — what did he say? He either said, “Hey, Rahm, where is the Ozempic?” Or “When’s Ozempic?” Something “Ozempic.” I just don’t know what word exactly. It was funny.”

Whatever the reason, if the fans can see that Rahm is losing weight, then his hard work might be paying off. Whether he used Ozempic to achieve the result or not is not confirmed yet. Although judging by his response, it seems that he is not entirely sure what the drug does. So that might not be the case.

However, Rahm did admit that he did enjoy the unique approach the fans took at heckling: “The humor that’s been there, it’s really funny. I would imagine tomorrow things might turn a little bit, but there’s always funny ones, and not only towards me, towards everybody.” The spectators have already started throwing hilarious jabs at the players even before the tournament has begun.

While it may all be funny right now, they can’t afford to be distracted during the event. Whether they hear comments about a weight loss drug or a random fart as heard by Tyrrell Hatton. It won’t come as a surprise if they also bring up Rahm’s geeky love for Star Wars at some point. Having said that, the Crushers GC captain still couldn’t help but acknowledge the creative efforts of the spectators.

“I’m not going to say what they said, but yesterday on 17, me and Shane Lowry had a good laugh at something someone said in the crowd. Again, people can be really creative nowadays,” said Rahm as he continued to enjoy the atmosphere at Bethpage. Sadly, he didn’t reveal what he and Lowry heard on the 17th hole. But he did appreciate the fans who could think of creative ways to taunt the players.

Having said that, such casual and comical heckling might be something Jon Rahm must already be prepared for. Especially after the rigorous training Luke Donald has put Team Europe through recently. So has the heckling become light work for the Spaniard and his teammates?

Are Jon Rahm & Team Europe too well prepared for the Bethpage hecklers?

A few days ago, Rory McIlroy revealed an interesting strategy deployed by Luke Donald to prepare Team Europe for the heckling at Bethpage. The English captain had distributed VR headsets to his players in an attempt to desensitize them to the noise in New York. The Irishman had already commended his captain’s efforts. But Jon Rahm didn’t think that strategy might work. However, he may have just proven Donald right after his comments about the comical heckling.

As we all know, Rahm is quite a passionate and aggressive individual. So, for him to take such comments about his physique so lightly might suggest that he may have been prepared for far worse than what fans at Bethpage have thrown at him so far. Even Robert MacIntyre revealed that he, too, was taking the path of ignorance, even if President Donald Trump’s arrival pumps up the crowd. This proves that Luke Donald’s strategy is working, even if Jon Rahm doesn’t want to believe it is.
