The fifth edition of the CJ Cup is beginning tomorrow at the Summit Club, Summerlin. Big names are in attendance, including Dustin Johnson, Collin Morikawa, and Sung-jae Im. Justin Thomas, the two-time winner of the tournament, will also be playing.

The cup, which is generally played at the Nine Bridges in Jeju Island, was postponed due to the pandemic travel restrictions. Hence, for two consecutive years now, since 2020, Vegas has hosted the PGA Tour event.

The Korean fans have a new nickname for Justin Thomas

A day before the start of the competition, Thomas appeared at a press conference. “You’re making your fifth start at the CJ Cup, with two wins. I was just told that you have a nickname in Korea, that you are ‘The Icon’,” said a journalist. Unquestionably, it’s a fitting name for the 2017 and 2019 winner.

“I mean, obviously I wish you know, we could be spending this time in Jeju island. I have a lot of great memories there. Developed a lot of great friendships and relationships. I mean it’s a cool place, and golf is so unique that we’re able to travel the world and go to different places,” he said.

“It’s a great week. The golf course, the food, the hotel. Obviously, the travel’s a little bit easier this week; just coming to Vegas versus Jeju. But, yeah, it’s a great tournament, and it’s great to see a lot of familiar faces and hopefully, we can recreate some of the good memories here in Vegas.”
