LIV Golf is doing everything it can to get recognized by the OWGR! And they are now opening the gates for more fresh talent to get into the league through qualification. Until last year, LIV Golf’s biggest source of getting new players was directly signing them from other Tours. Even though they hosted the Promotions Event at the end of every year, it didn’t attract as much attention as their new signings. However, all that might change from 2026 onwards as they are trying to get authorized by the OWGR.

As Flushing It reported, “LIV Golf have officially announced their Promotions Event for the 2026 season, which will take place on 8th-11th January, at Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto, Florida. They will reward the top two finishers with a one year contract on the LIV Golf League for 2026, an increase from one spot in 2025. And as in previous seasons, the top 10 finishers, including ties, will earn full exemption into the 2026 International Series on the Asian Tour. There will be a prize purse for the Promotions Event of $1.5 million.”

Other than the big prize money reward, now two players will get the opportunity to earn lucrative deals from LIV Golf for the 2026 season. This will encourage more golfers from around the world to participate in the Promotions Event and compete for the contracts. Moreover, access to the 2026 International Series on the Asian Tour will be a great bonus for anyone who doesn’t make it to the top-2.

Speaking about the latest move made by LIV Golf, CEO Scott O’Neil said, “LIV Golf continues to expand pathways for players around the world to qualify into the first truly global golf league. As fan interest in LIV Golf continues to increase and the opportunity to compete across the U.S., Asia Pacific, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East against some of the biggest names in golf grows, it’s only natural that we broaden access for talented, ambitious players to earn their way into the league.”

The LIV Golf Promotions Events not only promise golfers big opportunities within the league but also give them exposure on courses across the globe. But this is not the only step they have recently taken to win the approval of the OWGR. Let’s see what other rules Scott O’Neil has introduced recently.

LIV Golf is taking big steps to gain OWGR status

Ever since Scott O’Neil took his position in the office at LIV Golf, he has been making some big moves to improve the visibility of the league. He signed a deal with Fox Sports to give them access to a better sports network for broadcast. The LIV Golf CEO has also been connecting regularly with leaders of other golf governing bodies to ensure a cordial relationship. And that has certainly helped improve their chances of gaining OWGR status.

The biggest change that O’Neil made to comply with the requirements of OWGR will come into effect in the near future. He ensured that every player who signs a contract from 2026 onwards will have a few clauses added to it. Apart from the 13 events in the LIV Golf schedule, the pro will also have to play at least 2 International Series tournaments a year. This rule helps promote the growth of the associated series and also forces its players to participate in more events each year. Dustin Johnson has already signed a new deal based on the updated rules. More will follow in the coming weeks.
