The golfer had announced her retirement from the game after she played the last game of her career at the 2023 U.S. Women’s Open. However, she has still managed to leave a certain LPGA Tour Pro, and that too a 1X major winner, in reverence to her, surprising many along the way!

Allisen Corpuz has had nothing short of an amazing year with a phenomenal win coming from the U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach along with being able to represent her country at the Solheim Cup. The 25-year-old, who clinched her first LPGA victory at the event that saw West retire, had much to say about the ex-pro as she took to an interview ahead of the CME Group Tour Championship in Florida.

In a press conference, the 25-year-old was asked about the influence the ex-professional had on her “as a youth.” Corpuz went ahead to mention how watching a fellow athlete from Hawaii “play fantastic golf” has been inspiring especially when both have enough things in common while referring to the both of them as being Asian-Americans.

However, the 2023 major winner was quick to point out how the 34-year-old was “on another level” as she alluded to her gameplay. Moreover, adding to her praises, the 1X LPGA Tour winner expressed how influential it was “growing up and watching everything she accomplished,” all the while divulging how West came out to take pictures with Corpuz and her friends during a Junior Golf Association’s Tournament of Champions that the 2014 U.S. Women’s Open champ sponsored.

However, despite being an inspiration to many including the fellow Hawaiian athlete, the golfer had exited from the game after a small appearance at the 2023 major. But even so, she had managed to leave the sport with a bang!

The LPGA star bade her farewell to the game during the event at Pebble Beach which saw it being the most-watched edition of the same since 2014. The coverage of the tournament managed to average 895,000 viewers, a whopping 118 percent increase from 2022.

The final appearance of the professional might have something to do with the numbers as the competition in 2014 saw West winning the same, being the most-watched U.S. Women’s Open since 2009. With the growing fan base of the 5X LPGA Tour champ, it does certainly seem plausible that many of her followers watched the same to give her a well-deserved sendoff!
