The highly anticipated US Women’s Open is all set to start on July 6, 2023, with some of the biggest names competing for the major. The event will take place at the Pebble Beach golf course in California. In addition, the tournament has the highest prize money, totaling a staggering $10 million. Athletes of the highest caliber will compete for the win. The list also includes everyone’s favorite, Nelly Korda.

Nelly Korda is a name that needs no introduction in women’s golf. She has 12 professional wins to her name. However, this year has been rough for her. After opting out of the Mizuho Americas Open, she missed the cut in the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. The upcoming US Women’s Open can be a sort of redemption for her. However, owing to her recent injury update, it remains to be seen if she can make a comeback. As she attempts to win this week’s prestigious Pebble Beach tournament, let’s look back at her US Women’s Open career.

Korda’s best finishes at the US Open

Last year, before the US Open, Korda was diagnosed with a blood clot. She underwent surgery on her left arm to treat the issue. But it didn’t stop her from marking her legacy in the game. Korda returned to play at the U.S. Women’s Open, finishing in the top ten. She tied for eighth place. Her lone regret would probably be the 2-over 73 she shot in the last round at Pine Needles after shooting under par the prior three days.

2018 marked her greatest second-place finish. Korda performed admirably at Shoal Creek for the first time in her US Open career. She shot a total of 288 on the par 72 course to finish even par. She finished in a tie for a tenth place with Michelle Wie West and five other people.

Her subsequent best result came in 2019. Korda finished 5 over par on the 71-par course at the Country Club of Charleston. She finished with a total score of 289 and was tied for a 39th place with 10 other golfers. At Trump National Golf Club, she achieved her next career-best result in 2017. She shot 6-over par on a 72-par course, giving her a final score of 294. Together with three other golfers, she was ranked 44th.

The KPMG Women’s PGA Championship winner didn’t always have the stronger hold at the tournament. Her best performance record also shared the times when she didn’t give her best.

Korda’s not-so-great position at the US Open

The US Open didn’t witness Korda’s magic twice. She finished rounds 1 and 2 at the Champions Golf Club in 2020 with a 4-over-par total, missing the cut on the 71-par course. However, the public was unaware that Korda would not compete in the US Open the following year. The Olympic Club’s course has a 2021 par score of 71. She shot an 11-over-par total in rounds 1 and 2, and regrettably, Korda was again denied the opportunity to compete for the championship.

Her 2016 run at the US Open was memorable for her. The former No. 1 played the 72-par CordeValle course and finished with a score of 298 to tie for 59th place with four other golfers. In her amateur days, she participated in the 2013 US Open at the Sebonack Golf Club, where she grabbed the 64th position for herself.

Just like anyone else’s, Korda’s US Open journey is filled with ups and downs. Though at many points she proved why she is among the best, the US Open is still something that is always missing from Korda’s rosters.
