Rory McIlroy’s Masters history has been riddled with disappointments. Despite underscoring six top finishes, the pro with a history of an overload of bittersweet runner-up finishes in his career has not been able to secure even one win at the Masters. In fact, it has been around a decade since McIlroy won one of the major tournaments.

Out of his past four major wins, he has had luck in all other major championships, but there’s something about the Augusta National Golf Course that acts as a hurdle in his way to a Career Grand Slam. But it looks like the Northern Irishman has decided to write his own destiny this time. With his eyes fixated on the Green Jacket, he seems ready to leave no stone unturned. Here’s what he has been doing differently (and desperately)!

1. McIlroy’s attempts to dodge the famous Par-3 contest curse

The 24-time PGA Tour winner is all set to try an approach full of different permutations and combinations this year. For his 16th appearance at ANGC, he has decided to arrive at the Georgian course late on Tuesday and will not be playing in the ‘famously cursed’ Par-3 contest on Wednesday. This move could be utterly superstitious pertaining to the belief that golfer who wins the opening Par 3 contest never wins the Masters in the days to follow.

Thus making it the one competition in the game that no one wants to succeed in, and clearly, Rory McIlroy is in no mood to take one against the customary odds as he works his way out of the Grand Slam hurdle.

2. The 34-year-old has changed his schedule in his quest for a Masters win

The Northern Irishman has gone out of his comfort zone to play multiple events before the Masters this year. In order to rehearse for the upcoming challenge, he has played back-to-back events in the past month, from the Cognizant Classic to the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the PLAYERS Championship, and even the Valero Texas Open! This is poles apart from his usual approach of having a relaxed schedule and skipping most of the events before the Masters.

3. McIlroy’s switch from a die-hard PGA Tour loyalist to taking a softened LIV Golf stance

The Global Golf proponent, in his attempts to focus more on his game, resigned from his position as Player Director of the PGA Tour. This decision was centered on the fact that he was constantly being dragged into the PGA Tour-LIV Golf politics, which left him with less time and attention to work on his golf game.

Ever since his resignation, the once stringent PGA Tour loyalist has undergone a shift in his approach towards LIV Golf and has even suggested an approach in favor of the defectors in paving their way back. This could be entirely related to him not wanting to be part of the back and forth politics, or an honest change of heart!
