To receive a Masters invitation, a golfer must have at least a Major win or be in the top 50 of the OWGR for the previous calendar year. Though there are many more ways to get into the Major, these are the ways through which LIV Golf stars will receive their 2023 Masters invitation.

Winning the Green Jacket will get you a lifetime invitation to the prestigious Major. Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson, Sergio Garcia, Charl Schwartzel, and Patrick Reed have earned the feat of being invited for a lifetime. However, Cameron Smith, Brooks Koepka, and Bryson DeChambeau will receive the invite, since they have won a Major in the past 5 years.
Though Joaquin Niemann has no Major to his name, he will still receive an invite to the Major for being ranked in the top 50 of OWGR. The Chilean is currently ranked in the 22nd position. Despite LIV Golf failing to receive the OWGR points, Niemann won’t be receiving any more upgrades in the ranking list.
However, to be placed below 50 from the 15th position in at least four months seems impossible. Nonetheless, one may never know what could happen especially in today’s golfing world.

The omitting of LIV defectors in next season’s Masters has been a talk for the last few months. In August of this year, the Augusta National representatives allegedly threatened to disinvite players from the Saudi-funded Tour.
According to Golf Week’s Adam Schupak, the officials of the Augusta warned the defectors to not join the nemesis of the PGA Tour. And if they did join them, they would be uninvited from Masters. Nonetheless, in a few months, the dialogue of the representatives changed toward the rebels.

Though many regard the LIV defectors’ move to be a controversial one, they have earned the right to be invited to the Major. An ignorance of the qualifying criteria that has been followed for years would have resulted in great disappointment for several golfers. Nonetheless, it would be exciting to see the best golfers on the same golf course once again competing for the grandest prize in the sport.
