Cameron Smith is the Australian pride and has been making headlines with his brilliant play. Smith was backing himself up to clinch the title at the Hong Kong Open. Unfortunately, he fell just short and came second at the Asian Tour’s Hong Kong Open. Smith was leading the field for a while, however, New Zealand’s Ben Simmons snatched his win away. The Australian talked about his controversial LIV decision and his dream of playing in his home country in a recent interview. 

Smith is also preparing to make an appearance at the Fortinet Australia PGA Championship and the Australian Open. The 30-year-old, in his interview, revealed if the decision was regrettable. 

The Aussie chats about following his passion at LIV Golf

Before starting his last round in Hong Kong, Smith gave an interview to ABC Sports. The 2022 British Open winner expressed his afterthoughts about moving to LIV Golf. The news was controversial and berated by many in the golf world. Smith said in his interview with ABC Sport’s Quentin Hull, “I’m ecstatic. There’s definitely no regret here.” 

People claimed money to be the sole reason that made golfers move. However, Smith recounted his rationale behind the crucial decision, “Those 7 or 8 years on the PGA Tour were really nice. Very easy to get around, but I did miss the international travel. It’s something that I’ve always enjoyed, traveling the world and seeing different cultures, seeing different golf courses”

Smith implied that one of the reasons was that at LIV he could enjoy his love for travel. Indeed, the events of LIV moves around the world from one city to the other. Moreover, the 3x LIV Golf winner echoed the fun he had while playing in his home country and wishes to do the same next year at LIV Golf Adelaide.

The Australian Open and Smith’s return

The Australian Open is going to be a mixed event with men and women golfers taking part. Initially, the number of both men’s and women’s golfers in the tournament was 144. The event will run from November 30th to December 3rd. As per reports, Smith will be going to contest in the tournament, aiming to lift the Australian Open title.
