There’s no doubt that 2023 hasn’t been the year of Rory McIlroy. After failing to make a cut at the Masters this April, Rory had high hopes for the PGA Championship. However, after struggling in the first round of the event on Thursday, the Northern Irish golfer had almost given up on the spirits. But his hopes were restored as he finished playing the second round on Friday.
As the 34-year-old Golfer almost turned the tables unknowingly during the event’s second round, he grabs a hang of it and shares his game plan for the week. But the reactions that Rory received from the massive following he made during his career weren’t all pleasant.

Rory McIlroy talks about his plans for the weekend
After ending the first round at Oak Hill with a score of 71, McIlroy justified his below-well performance by revealing his suffering mental health. He also shared that he hasn’t been getting a goodnight’s sleep. Nevertheless. the golfer ended the second round of the event with a one-under scoring a 69. This shot led him into contention as he created a possibility of winning the Wanamaker trophy for the third time. The former World’s no. 1 revealed that it came upon him as a surprise when he found out he was “only five back.”

During a press conference after the game, he shared his thoughts from the field. McIlroy said, “When I holed that putt at the last, I looked at the board, and I thought, ‘I can’t believe I’m five back’.” The two-time PGA Championship winner acknowledged that this performance wasn’t as good as his other best ones. Following this tricky round at the Major, the PGA Tour loyalist shares what his game plan will be like for the week.
Rory said, “If I can get the ball in play off the tee I’ll have a shot and at this point, I might just tee it high and bomb it everywhere.” He added, “As long as you’re missing it in the right spots off the tee, I might as well just go for it and swing hard at it.” Hearing this strategy of the Northern Irish golfer, golf enthusiasts poured in some bleak comments as they criticized him on Twitter.
