Interestingly, Wyndham Clark seems to agree with the same, as he expressed his loyalty to the Jay Monahan-led circuit a while back. Well, if he is to achieve the best in the world rankings, who else can he beat other than Scottie Scheffler?

The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am champ took to an interview not too long ago to divulge his goals. Meanwhile, while doing so, he made sure to highlight his aim of being the “best” golfer in the world, beating the likes of the current world No. 1!

Wyndham Clark doubles down on the No. 1 spot on OWGR

“I ultimately want to chase being the best that I can be,” said Clark in a talk with Drew Stoltz and Andres Gonzales on the SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio when asked about his goals. Divulging more about the same, he said, “I would love to try and get to No. 1,” before going ahead to dub dethroning Scheffler as his “career goal,” even if it was just for “one week or one day.”

Adding on, he confessed how he doesn’t “look at the rankings that much,” while admitting how “awesome” it was to move up to No. 6 from the 10th spot on the OWGR following his recent win. “I really just want to control what I can control,” revealed the athlete while alluding to his mind and his preparation while hoping to win more events and “getting to world No. 1.”

Currently, at 272.68352 points, the 30-year-old is 144.44372 behind the 2022 Masters Tournament champ, who has figures of 417.12724. That’s a long road ahead. Nevertheless, Clark was not discouraged at all as he expressed his hope of being the “best,” be it “this year or… two years or… never.”

But he sure has a good chance of getting to the top spot if he stays on the PGA Tour. Fascinatingly, it seems the one-time major champ had the same thought as he quelled the rumors of him going to LIV Golf.

Clark dispels LIV Golf rumors

The three-time PGA Tour champ, while admitting to being in talks with the PIF-funded circuit, revealed how he did not wish to defect but was just curious about what the alternate tour would “bring to the table.” Moreover, he mentioned how he didn’t wish to join LIV Golf since they did not provide OWGR points and lacked in the legacy department when compared to the Monahan-led Tour.

“I wanted to chase world ranking,” said Clark while confessing his all-time career dream before going ahead to disclose, “I chose my legacy over LIV, and that’s really what it came down to.” He sure did end up prioritizing the two over the Saudi-backed league, despite being interested in signing a deal with the circuit once. Well, with the victory at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Clark sure is one step closer to his dream.
