It has been more than 25 years since Tiger Woods began to play golf professionally. During this time, he has played on almost all the reputed golf courses all over the world. Yet, something about the Old Course of St. Andrews Links has made him fall in love with it.

“I am looking for St. Andrews,” Woods said in an interview with Sky Sports Golf, in which he discussed where fans can expect him to see him play next.

The Open Course of St. Andrews is hosting the Open Championship this year as well. Since its inception, it would be the course’s 150th time hosting the event.

EXPLAINED: Why Tiger Woods Wears Red on Sundays

Known as the birthplace of golf, St. Andrews is situated in Scotland. Although it is hard to trace back the exact date, golf is believed to be invented at the Old Course of St. Andrews.

Like the Augusta National, the Old Course also has designated names for all the 18 holes.

Tiger Woods history with St. Andrews

Out of three of his Open Championship titles, Woods has won two at St. Andrews. His first victory was in 2000, which was also the first of his many wins in the same year. The golfer had won the tournament with a record-breaking 19-under par then.

Later, he won the 134th Open Championship title in 2005. Woods won the event with a 5-shot lead over the field.

Furthermore, Woods became the fifth golfer ever to win multiple Opens at St. Andrews with his 2005 Open win. Bob Martin, JH Taylor, James Braid, and Jack Nicklaus are the other legends who have achieved the feat before Woods.

Since he met with a terrible car crash in 2021, Woods is sure that he won’t be playing them throughout the season. However, he plans to play in special events where he feels comfortable. And since it is his favorite golf course in the world, Tiger is planning to play at the Open Championship this year.
