Phil Mickelson is one of the most well-known golfers in the world. He is probably the biggest name in golf after Tiger Woods. Moreover, Mickelson has won 45 PGA Tour events and six major championships in his career so far. Mickelson is also the oldest golfer to win a major, as he won the 2021 PGA Championship at age 50.

However, the left-handed golfer is notorious for his betting addiction. He has been a wager for a long time, but only a handful of people knew about the 52-year-old golfer.

Moreover, he was not doing it for fun; Mickelson was serious about it and had made an insane amount of money.

Mickelson is a huge NFL fan, and he used to place bets on a few games. So, before the start of the 2000-01 NFL season, the left-handed golfer placed a bet on the Baltimore Ravens, was an underdog team with 28-to-1 odds of winning the Super Bowl. But Mickelson put all his eggs in one basket and bet of $20,000 on this team.

“I liked their off-season player acquisitions,” revealed Phil. And to everyone’s surprise, the Baltimore Ravens defeated the New York Giants, 34-7, in the Super Bowl. Moreover, this was an enormous upset as the New York Giants were a formidable team. But this result ended up giving Phil $560,000 for his $20,000. He made around twenty-eight times more money than he bet.

Meanwhile, this was not luck or any co-incidence. Phil had been studying and placing bets on the NFL for a while. As reports suggest, he has always had decent money. However, Mickelson has been facing a backlash from fans after they learned about his notorious habit.

Furthermore, he is receiving criticism for his controversial remarks and decisions. Phil made comments about the PGA Tour and joined the Saudi-backed LIV Golf, the rival golf league to the PGA Tour.

Fans believe Mickelson is destroying the great legacy that he has built over the years on the PGA Tour. He is now facing a lifetime ban from the PGA Tour, which means he and other LIV golfers like him would not be able to compete on the PGA Tour in the future.
