Phil Mickelson has a lot of sponsors that pay him enormous amounts of money for him to promote their brand. Among these brands was Mizzen+Main, the ones responsible to make Mickelson’s unique button-down shirts. Right before Lefty went to play at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, the brand released a video of the 48-year-old golfer dancing. It was a commercial that brought the entire internet down to its knees.

When asked about the rather surprising video of him, Mickelson explained, “They showed some of the videos like they had done like with Tim Tebow and J.J. Watt and they said, ‘We have this idea about dancing.’ Obviously, you know, it’s not my—it’s not the thing I’m most comfortable doing,”

Phil Mickelson Once Found Himself in a ‘Predicament’ and What He Did Next Will Surprise You

He then added, “But then (Phil’s wife) Amy said, ‘You should just tell them that you know how to do the worm.’ So after she said that, it was over, we were doing it.” Mickelson is a master at doing the worm, and his wife knew about his hidden talents. Mickelson also said that it was equally funny for him as it was for his fans and that he was okay laughing at himself.

“How can you not be (embarrassed), you know?” Lefty said after the video went viral among his fans on the same day. He shared that the video was shot almost a month ago, and it took him around 15-20 takes to get it right. It took the team almost an hour of work to get those moves out of Mickelson.

According to the golf ace, it looked “benign” but it wasn’t easy for him to dance for an advertisement. However, he couldn’t deny what his wife asked him to do. But Mickelson surely went out of his comfort zone to work on this commercial. “I’ve not ever taken myself too seriously…it’s certainly outside my comfort zone,” said Mickelson.
