Phil Mickelson Reveals How LIV Golf is Expanding the Sport to Multiple Countries With their Model

Phil Mickelson is a golfing veteran. Over the past three decades, the ‘lefty’ has managed to be a part of the list of elite golfing greats. A feat that has gracefully pampered his life as a golfer. However, now, with the help of LIV Golf, he hopes to use his legendary status to shape the future of golf and influence the younger generations.

Thus, he recently discussed how he plans to do so.

Phil Mickelson reveals his ways of shaping the future of golf

After playing the first 5 legs of LIV Golf, Mickelson is currently in Bangkok for the 6th leg. On the 6th of October, he indulged in a conversation with the media during the pre-tournament press conference. During the conversation, he revealed how he was using the Saudi Arabia-backed league to influence the future of golf.

“I’m trying to do that now in the partnership with LIV and the ability to bring golf to other parts of the world other than the United States,” he stated. “I think that the growth opportunity in the game is more global now.”

Starting in June this year, LIV Golf has crossed geographical boundaries and has successfully managed to cater to golf fans around the globe. Currently, in its inaugural year, the league has divided its eight events into cities across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Something which the multi-million dollar league hopes to expand in the coming future.

Elucidating further on the role of LIV Golf in shaping the future, Mickelson said, “We’re seeing the interest in other countries, and we’re seeing the opportunities in other countries, and LIV Golf is in a great spot to capitalize on that, and benefit from it, but also give to those communities and help develop the game in other countries.

Led by golfing legend Greg Norman, LIV Golf is set to host its 6th event in Bangkok on 7th October. Ending on 9th October, it will next move to Jeddah before closing its season end of this month in Miami. As far as Mickelson is concerned, the 56-year-old, at $200 million, is one of the biggest signings of the league.

However, scrolling through the past results, the former World No. 2 has only managed to have 1 Top 10 finish in five events.
