Sahith Theegala Reveals the Golfers Who Inspired Him to Make it to the PGA Tour

Sahith Theegala is an upcoming name in the golf world. The 24-year-old professional is a part of the field this week at the 2022 Waste Management Phoenix Open, and is teeing it up in a total field of 132 players.

Notably, the American professional recently spoke to the media after his second round, revealing the professionals he grew up admiring.

Sahith Theegala on stars he grew up watching

Theegala is a part of the field at the Waste Management Phoenix Open as a result of a sponsor’s exemption. The 24-year-old has made most of the opportunity as he leads the event after 36 holes. He leads the pack with a two-stroke lead after completing the second round on Friday. Not to forget, the field includes some of the biggest names in the sport of golf, and for him to go out there and play as well as he has is commendable.

Sahith spoke to the media after his round on Friday and opened up on the professionals that he grew up watching on the television that inspired him. And yes, the list obviously includes Tiger Woods. He said, “You name it. All the guys like Vijay, Tiger, Dustin Johnson, Phil, Ernie, that kind of generation. And then obviously more recently I mean all these guys, Xander, Cantlay, all the younger generation, Rory.”

He added, “But, yeah, I’ve been — I wouldn’t say I watched a ton of golf, but I really enjoy watching golf now and seeing what some of these top guys are doing.”  

Well, with the game that Theegala is showcasing right now, it’s very likely that he may also join the list of the names he just mentioned. Brimming with potential, the future looks bright for Sahith.

Sahith Theegala carded a round of 64, seven-under-par in the second round of WM Phoenix Open. He carded four birdies and a bogey on the front nine, as a result, making the turn at three-under-par, 32. However, his back nine was flawless, with four birdies and not a single bogey.
