Sergio Garcia hasn’t had the best time on the fairway lately. The last time he won anything was way back in March 2025 during LIV Golf Hong Kong. Since then, the 45-year-old has had a frustrating run in the Saudi-based promotion and in Europe. In fact, the last time Garcia won anything on the DP World Tour was way back in 2019. Recently, following a disappointing outing in his home country, the Spaniard expressed his frustration over his poor form.

The one-time major winner was recently asked about his official world ranking at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid. Frustrated by the question, Garcia replied, “No, I’m not going to talk about that. We’ve been talking about it for a long time, and no, I’m not going to waste my time.” His struggles in Europe have hurt his OWGR standing, and with LIV Golf unsanctioned for ranking points, even his Hong Kong win didn’t help. This is just one of the challenges LIV Golf pros face on the DP World Tour.

Some players faced bans because of their ties to the Saudi-backed LIV Golf. Recent reports suggest the DP World Tour may allow LIV Golf pros to compete without facing the $1 million fine, with Jon Rahm potentially playing a key role in negotiations. When Garcia was asked about the progress, he remained noncommittal, “Not everything is resolved, there are still many things that need to be resolved.”

For now, LIV Golfers still have a fair few obstacles to deal with while trying to play in the DP World Tour. But in Garcia’s case, his challenge is not the same. The Spaniard hasn’t competed in enough European events to be eligible for next season without incurring fines. When questioned about what he was going to do about the issue, the 45-year-old said, “Well, nothing, suspended, and next year, well, even better,” as he laughed it off in his closing comments.

It seems like the 11-time PGA Tour champion might have to pay a $1 million fine again if he wants to play in the DP World Tour next season. Considering how hesitant he was to do it the first time, fans might not see him play in Europe at all from 2026 onwards.

However, that is not the only obstacle Sergio Garcia will face next season, even if he does end up paying the fines. There is one more reason that he might not be able to tee off against Rory McIlroy & others in the DP World Tour.

Has Sergio Garcia reached the lowest point of his career in Europe?

During his recent interview, reporters pointed out that it has been six years since Sergio Garcia won on the DP World Tour. He is currently sitting at his worst-ever position on the Race To Dubai leaderboard since he began his career in Europe. The 16-time DP World Tour winner is 177th in the Race To Dubai rankings. Returning to Europe for the first time since 2022, Garcia managed to get knocked out of the Tour only after playing two events and scoring just 130 R2DR points.

This means he’s not only outside the qualification criteria for the DP World Tour, but is also Europe’s development Tour. Based on the eligibility criteria, Garcia can’t play the Hotel Planner Tour in 2026, even if he wishes to. Ironically, even when he started his career in Europe in 1995, he had never played the Hotel Planner Tour. Recent struggles, including a T39 finish at the 2025 Spanish Open, highlight the contrast for the 45-year-old compared to his peak form.
