Sitting 15 feet away from the cup, Shane Lowry needed a birdie on the 18th at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid to make the cut for the weekend. He had a tough time in the 2025 Open de España on Thursday, and this was his last chance to play the entire tournament. He struck the ball, and it rolled over just 1 foot away from the hole. That ended the Irishman’s fate in Spain two days before the tournament will officially conclude. Frustrated with his performance, Lowry did something his close friend, Rory McIlroy, did during the 2025 PGA Championship.

Playing his first tournament since he hit the Ryder Cup retaining putt for Team Europe at Bethpage, Shane must be hoping to get a positive result in Spain. However, after things didn’t go his way, he decided to skip the press conference. There is no confirmation of whether he is still on the course or if he has left for his hotel. Either way, the reporters will certainly not be able to question Lowry about his performance this week.

Lowry scored 1-over 143 in two rounds to crash out of the $3.25 million event early. He struggled to perform in the first round after shooting 6 bogeys and two birdies to go 4-over. However, the Irish pro nearly pulled off an amazing comeback on Friday by scoring a 3-under 68. Unfortunately, that was not enough for him to earn his place for the weekend rounds, as the cutline was at par. Had Lowry scored the birdie on the 18th hole, he would have joined Jon Rahm, Patrick Reed, & Co. for two more days of action and compete for his first Spanish Open win.

Where will Shane Lowry play next after the 2025 Spanish Open?

His 2025 Spanish Open dream is all wrapped up. Now Shane Lowry will have a few days’ break before the next DP World Tour event. However, his next appearance will be in the coming week. The European pros will travel to India for the 2025 DP World India Championship. Lowry, along with Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, Luke Donald, Viktor Hovland, and many other top stars, will be in Delhi to play in the $4 million tournament.

So far, he has not committed himself to the Genesis Championship that will be played in South Korea after the trip to India. However, beyond that, Shane Lowry, Rory McIlroy, & every other top European golfer will certainly participate in the two DP World Tour play-off events. Even if it’s nearly impossible for him to topple McIlroy off the top of the table, Lowry would really push for his first win in the 2025 DP World Tour Championship. That will conclude the 2025 season for the European Tour.
