Shane Lowry’s last win came at the 2024 Zurich Classic of New Orleans, teaming up with hi best friend, Rory McIlroy. The Irishman’s last individual win was in 2022 on the DP World Tour: the BMW PGA Championship. Shockingly, it has been nearly six years since Lowry has won an individual title on the PGA Tour. In 2019, the 38-year-old captured the Open Championship title, the first and only major of his career. We can’t say that he hasn’t had a taste of victory recently, but he would still be yearning for more. So, it’s only fair that playing in the 2025 Truist Championship, Lowry is pushing hard to break his winless streak on the PGA Tour.
He is at the top of the table, tied with Sepp Straka and three strokes away from the remaining field. Even the defending champion and Lowry’s good friend, McIlroy, is 6 strokes behind him. Going into the final round, the 3-time PGA Tour winner is certainly the favorite to win the Signature event. Sitting down for a press conference after the end of the round, the first question a reporter asked the Irishman was, “Shane, it’s been—you won the Zurich with Rory last year, but individually it’s been a couple of years since you’ve won. What have you learned about yourself as you continually put yourself in contention and knocked on the door”? They are talking about the BMW Championship win in 2022.
Exhausted after a day of enthralling stroke play, Lowry replied, “I just think you need to be persistent. You need to keep putting yourself there, and eventually it will happen. You look at Rory at the Masters a few weeks ago.” Rory McIlroy’s incredible 11-year journey to finally win the Green Jacket is truly inspiring for everyone, including his good friend, Shane Lowry. The 2019 Open Championship winner added, “Keep knocking on the door, and eventually you’ll go through it. I feel like I’ve done a good job of it this season and last season. It does get frustrating sometimes, but yeah, I’m in the final group tomorrow.” Taking a page out of McIlroy’s book, he is going to put his “positive hat on” in every tournament as he tries to get back to winning ways.

Speaking about what he is expecting from the final round, Lowry stated, “I’ve played pretty good golf this year. I’m pretty happy with the way I’m playing this week, and I’m going to go out and give my best. If it’s good tomorrow, that will be great.” He knows that he has been doing really well this week, and carrying that “positive attitude” into the final round will certainly help him. The biggest challenge Lowry will probably face is from Straka. Both players are locked in at the top with 14-under par 196 after three rounds. And Straka has been in splendid form this season, having won once and finished in the top 10 two more times in 2025.

The biggest threats to Shane Lowry’s first individual win in years
Shane Lowry may be sitting pretty at the top of the leaderboard with a three-stroke lead over nearly everyone. However, the last 18 holes will present a lot of challenges that he might not be prepared for. The weather won’t be a deterrent as the final round is expected to be clear and cool. However, Lowry might experience some thunderstorms from Straka throughout the last 18 holes.
Alternatively, Justin Thomas is also in contention for his second victory of the year. Having returned to winning ways himself, the Florida citizen is eager to push for another win rather than settling down the way he did after the 2022 PGA Championship. Keith Mitchell, who finished at the top on Thursday and Friday, will also be pushing to steal the title away from Lowry. Just like the Irishman, Mitchell has also not won a single PGA Tour title since 2019. The 33-year-old would be just as eager to break his winless streak as Shane Lowry.
