Jordan Spieth talks about his miraculous shot

The Smylie Show, a podcast hosted by Smylie Kaufman, recently featured Jordan Spieth. They touched upon several topics including the Ryder Cup and his hand injury before moving on to his contentious shot at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in 2022. Spieth took a shot on the par-4 eighth hole, which is perched on the edge of a cliff, at great personal risk. Kaufman shared a snippet of the conversation on his official Twitter account.

Kaufman told Spieth that the “five best words in golf” are “Mikey, this one’s on me.” Spieth used the same argument to refute his caddie, Michael Greller. However, Spieth wished his caddie had dissuaded him from attempting that dangerous shot this time. “The only time I’ve said that and still thought ‘Michael, I think you should have done something different’ was on the cliff at Pebble. I kinda wish that he took seven by ankles and just, actually,” Spieth added.

Despite the fact that he regrets jeopardizing his life and taking the shot, he was jovial as he claimed, “It’s a game and we are entertainers. I will say that looking back, those are the moments I remember.”

Spieth shares the significance of the Ryder Cup

The 13x PGA Tour winner also talked about the significance of the Ryder Cup. He emphasized how his game in the previous Ryder Cup had unquestionably improved his results in other significant competitions. Being chosen for the team gave him inspiration, and he began to have more confidence in his skills. He added that Scottie Scheffler must have had similar thoughts during the Ryder Cup in 2021.

“The culture itself, I think, and you’d have to ask Scottie [Scheffler] straight up, but it happened to me in 2014, as far as just having success in the Ryder Cup, and doing it on foreign soil–I had contended at the Masters and The Players in 2014 and I came up short–and then after the Ryder Cup I felt like I found that little extra gear to be able to close stuff out,” said World Number 11.

He also said talented athletes like Cameron Young can realize their full potential thanks to the culture that these tournaments establish.
