Colt Knost wants to return to amateur golf, but not everyone is on board. The retired pro-turned-analyst has too much experience to easily revert to amateur status, even after five years away from professional play. Suspended PGA Tour star Wesley Bryan took a jab, suggesting he might also try to reclaim amateur status. That didn’t sit well with Fried Egg Golf’s Brendan Porath, who called Bryan out for seeking attention. Now, Bryan is striking back against the backlash.

Sharing a screenshot of Porath’s accusation, Bryan tweeted, “I have a few comments….here me out 1) fried egg and similar outlets use other peoples ideas and content to have something to talk or give an opinion on 2) they have to say things to drive clicks and attention or else they will go out of business.” Interestingly, most of Brendan’s rant wasn’t even focused on Wesley. He was only sharing his frustration over Colt trying to retain his amateur status.

According to Porath, it was unrealistic of Knost to expect no strong reactions from the community after he had stated his desire to turn amateur again. He suggested that the retired pro was just creating drama and encouraging the golf fans and affiliates to talk about him. And Bryan did exactly that by trying to hitch himself to the attention train” that was being run by Knost. Had the content creator not tried to involve himself in the situation, then he wouldn’t have caught the heat from Porath.

Interestingly, this is not the first time Wesley Bryan has put himself in a messy situation and tried to deflect from it. He did so earlier this year as well when he got suspended from the PGA Tour. Let’s see what happened then.

Wesley Bryan is used to deflecting the blame when in a sticky situation

From recording one of the fastest 18 holes in a PGA Tour event to decisively winning the 2017 RBC Heritage, Wesley Bryan’s career in golf has been nothing short of exciting. Even his suspension from the PGA Tour was packed with news. After becoming a content creator, he has looked for every opportunity to make the headlines and grow his media presence. He tried to do so by participating in a LIV Golf exhibition event, The Duels: Miami, while still being affiliated with the PGA Tour. But Jay Monahan was not going to stand it.

It wasn’t like the PGA Tour wasn’t aware of it. In fact, they had warned him on multiple occasions not to go ahead with his plans. Yet Bryan chose to join the LIV Golf The Duels: Miami event. Not long after, he was suspended. He confirmed his suspension by posting a YouTube video with his brother titled ‘I Was Suspended From The PGA Tour’. In the video, he also suggested that he would raise the issue with the golf bodies. However, nothing came out of it in the end. But he still believed that it wasn’t his fault that he got suspended, despite getting multiple warnings from Jay Monahan and others.
