The PGA Tour has made some big announcements since the launch of its rival, the LIV Golf league. It started with Jay Monahan’s statement regarding the suspension of LIV Golf rebels from the PGA Tour. However, things did not stop there. The PGA Tour recently announced that it was increasing the prize money for the FedEx Cup Playoffs, and the raise is massive!

PGA Tour increases FedEx Cup Playoffs purse

Golf writer, Kyle Porter recently tweeted about the increased prize money of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. PGA Tour has made some huge increments in the purse for this year’s playoffs. The total purse for the event this year stands at $75 million, which is $15 million more than last year! The winner will receive $18 million as prize money, and the top 7 players will get more than $2 million.

There are also other benefits to participating in the FedEx Cup Playoffs this year. The top 10 players will be getting $1 million each. Other than that, all the players who make it to the Tour Championship will make $500K. The BMW Championship qualifiers will also get $175K each.

These actions by PGA seem like a way to retain the interest of their remaining players. LIV Golf has offered a lot of money to many talented players to lure them in. However, it looks like the PGA Tour is trying to do the same thing now.

Twitter fans react to insane PGA prize money announcement

Fans on Twitter are happy for their favorite PGA Tour players. But they left no chance in trolling LIV Golf players who betrayed PGA and joined the Saudi-backed tour. Some fans made direct statements on Phil Mickelson, saying that they are the reason behind PGA’s decision.

PGA has surprised its fans as well as the golfers associated with it with the sudden announcement. It might prove to be a successful way to keep the players on the tour. However, the purses still do not compare to the LIV Golf league.
