The withdrawal from the Hero World Challenge comes as a sudden halt to Woods’ comeback plan. Many had raised the question about his fitness before – Tiger last played competitive golf at the Open Championship almost four months ago.

A hectic schedule awaited Woods in December. He was due to play the Hero World Challenge before heading for the seventh edition of The Match at the Pelican Golf Club next weekend. Woods also had an appointment at the PNC Championship, where he’s expected to tee up alongside his son, Charlie Woods.

Reassuringly, he still has plans to play in the other two events. While the miss at the Hero is saddening, it increases Woods’ chances of participating in The Match and the PNC Championship, fit and raring to go.
