To say that Tommy Fleetwood is in great form would be an understatement. Because he’s literally racking up the best results of his career right now. The Englishman had a prolific season on the PGA tour that ended with the first win of his career. He dominated the field at Bethpage and nearly went undefeated in all five matches he played. And now, he is playing in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, eyeing another juicy record. One that he has never surpassed in his career.

Nosferatu gave the fans a glimpse at what the results at this week’s PGA Tour & DP World Tour events could lead to. As their tweet confirmed as so did the OWGR website, tournaments from both the Tours are nearly giving out the same points. And based on how Tommy is progressing, he might be on a path to reach a rank he has never achieved in his career. The 2025 TOUR Championship winner is currently sitting at world #7. And if he finishes high on the leaderboard in Scotland, then he could propel up to as high as the world #3 spot.
Yes, Fleetwood could replace Russell Henley and take the spot behind Rory McIlroy on the Official World Golf Rankings. But he will need a strong finish for that. As things stand, he is sitting at 23rd on the leaderboard. If he gets a top 15 finish, then that should be enough to secure him the 5th place on the OWGR leaderboard. He is only about 0.07 points away from Justin Thomas, who is currently placed on that position. Even if Fleetwood reaches it, he would be at his best career rank ever.

How far is Tommy Fleetwood from reaching the world #3 ranking?
At present, Tommy Fleetwood is sitting at 7-under 137 after completing his second round. He’s five strokes away from the top of the leaderboard. However, the round is yet to be completed as Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, & Co. couldn’t complete their holes due to waterlogging after rainfall. As confirmed by the DP World Tour website, the remainder of the round has been suspended for the day, and the action will proceed tomorrow.
However, one thing is certain: Fleetwood has made it past the cutline. His next goal will be to get into contention. Even if he doesn’t end up winning the tournament, a runner-up finish should be enough to push him up the OWGR table. Right now, he is 0.65 average points behind Russell Henley. While that might be a large margin to cover, gaining about 20 OWGR points from the tournament should be enough for Tommy Fleetwood to become the third-best golfer in the world.
