The 2022 AT&T Byron Nelson kicks off today at the beautiful TPC Craig Ranch. However, a piece of sad news broke out yesterday for Brooks Koepka, who was also a part of the field.

The four-time major championship officially withdrew from the Tour event on Wednesday. This is a major setback for the four-time major championship winner ahead of next week’s PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club. Moreover, Koepka has not played since his dismal performance at the 2022 Maters at Augusta National Golf Club, where he did not make the cut. 

However, the reason for Koepka’s withdrawal from the event is still unknown. But given his past with injuries surrounding his career, it may be the case that he is suffering from another such injury. He is replaced by Satoshi Kodaira in the field.

Moreover, his withdrawal continues his frustrating run at the 2021-2022 PGA Tour season. Koepka has missed the cut six times in his last 13 starts. The 32-year-old professional’s only top 10 finish at a stroke-play event came at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

But given his history at the PGA Championship, which starts on May 19th, he has won twice, and his last major win came at the same major championship at Bethpage in 2019. It will be exciting to see how Brooks performs at the second major event of the calendar year.

He finished in tied second position at the PGA Championship last year at Kiawah Island. Moreover, his withdrawal just a week before the event poses a great question about his participation in the major championship event. Will Koepka be able to compete at the 2022 PGA Championship?

Brooks Koepka wins the 2019 PGA Championship

Brooks won his fourth and last major championship event at Bethpage in 2019. He emphatically won the 2019 PGA Championship with an overall score of eight under par. As a result, Koepka won the event with a comfortable two-shot advantage after the final round on Sunday. Moreover, he carded a final round of four-over-par, 74 to finish on the top of the one birdie and leaderboard. Brook’s final round included one birdie and one bogey opening nine holes.

As a result, he moved out in level-par, 35. The 32-year-old made one birdie and five bogeys on the back nine to turn in four-over-par, 39. Dustin Johnson finished as the runner-up to Koepka. He ended the event with an overall score of six-under-par. As a result, Johnson settled for a solo second position finish at the 2019 PGA Championship.
