It came as nothing short of a surprise to the golf community when the DP World Tour announced its intention to grow its family. The European Tour went ahead to open up its membership to players from the PGA Tour since it seemed the deadline for the $3 billion merger would not be met.

The new move did not sit well with a lot of people. However, a PGA Tour pro was spotted putting forward his line of thought regarding the same as he offered “another perspective” to the situation, surprising many of his followers!

PGA Tour Pro shares his thoughts on the new move

The DP World Tour offered a new category 12 along with full membership in its circuit to the players finishing from 126-200 on the FedEx Cup Fall points list along with an affiliate membership to the same for any other golfer on the PGA Tour when they participate in any of the 2024 Race to Dubai ranking tournament. However, the new directives were not welcomed completely by many as Flushing It reported the concern of a lot of players losing their spots to “low-ranked PGA Tour players.”

However, Billy Horschel came out with a tweet on his social media handle not too long ago in reply to the media outlet as he put forward “another way to look at it.” The 36-year-old mentioned how ten players from the European circuit are leaving the same to play on the PGA Tour in 2024 which would open up the same number of spots that are “usually taken.”

Continuing with his reply, he pointed out how five of those will be filled with golfers from the “Challenge Tours/Q School.” Moreover, the rest of the slots would possibly consist of the “conditional members” who would be part of the newly created category.

The golf world is set to welcome a big change as new opportunities open up on the European Tour. However, confusion is prevalent in the community with the new move that the circuit made in a bid to strengthen its alliance with the PGA Tour.

Horschel appears to have a lot of support

In the wake of the post by the 7X PGA Tour champ, fans at least appeared to be a bit pacified. Let’s see what they have said.

Another victory for Horschel as he managed to convince a different follower who accepted his perspective.

Fans and sponsors are an integral part of the game. While players should remain the top priority of the Tours, the people following the game and the people spending money shouldn’t be discarded. Well, a follower did ask a unique question raising the welfare of the two.

A lot of PGA Tour players don’t go around the world to play on the European Tour. And so, the current opportunity that was put forward can be seen as a move by the DP World Tour to make themselves more appealing to the athletes. And, Horschel’s attempts to do the same did not go unseen.

Jimmy Bullard is a former football player who turned to golf in 2013 after an injury to his knee. Although he has not been as successful in his second career, he is a talented golfer regardless. And, a fan did raise a question, albeit hilariously.

Well, after all these confusions and questions, the PGA Tour pro himself responded to his own tweet trying to bring more clarity to the matter.
