Caddies from the PGA Tour are getting fired left, right, and center. Max Homa parted ways with Joe Greiner just before the 2025 Masters Tournament. Matt Fitzpatrick also let go of Billy Foster after he couldn’t improve his form this year. Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth were also asked to switch their caddies as a few experienced candidates became available. Now, the latest reports have confirmed that Collin Morikawa has split with J.J. Jakovac after working together for six years.
Unlike Homa and Fitzpatrick, Morikawa was much more swift with his decision to hire a replacement. So, who is the new bagman for the 28-year-old PGA Tour pro? Let’s learn about Collin Morikawa’s new on-course partner.

Who is Collin Morikawa’s newly hired caddie?
Collin Morikawa and J.J. Jakovac had been together since 2019, immediately after the former turned pro. Morikawa claimed all of his six PGA Tour wins, including two majors in 2020 and 2021 with Jakovac. However, the Los Angeles local was facing a drought for nearly two years. Despite getting close to winning on multiple occasions, Morikawa couldn’t grab a single title after his 2023 ZOZO Championship victory. He has been acting out of frustration recently, and that has received a lot of backlash from his peers and fans alike. That has prompted the Californian to make a change, and J.J. Jakovac took the beating for it.
As announced by Underdog Golf, Morikawa has fired his caddie and replaced him with Homa’s ex-bagman, Joe Greiner. Greiner is an experienced caddie and a childhood friend of his former boss. The two joined forces a year before Homa became a pro in 2014. During their time together, the PGA Tour pro won 6 titles. However, just like Morikawa, Homa had also been in a drought. So he decided to split ways with Greiner. The caddie was looking for a new gig after he got released by his former boss. During that time, he had also caddied for Justin Thomas temporarily in the Masters Tournament and the RBC Heritage in 2025.
It is worth noting that Greiner’s first stint with Homa was short-lived. He left his boss during their first outing together and started working for Kevin Chappell. During that period, the caddie saw Chappell win his first and only PGA Tour title, the 2017 Valero Texas Open. The two shared an emotional hug after the PGA Tour pro finally fulfilled his dream. Especially because a year prior, Greiner and Chappell had faced a tough defeat to Rory McIlroy in the TOUR Championship.
Greiner hadn’t always dreamt of being a looper. In fact, his true aspiration was to be a professional golfer himself. He was working on achieving the dream at the College of the Canyons. However, he realized that his strength lies in advising rather than with the stick. Interestingly, he got his first job as a looper for Homa because the two used to play together at Vista Valencia Golf Club.

Getting to know Joe Greiner
Joe Greiner used to be a very active X user till 2015 (known as Twitter back then). Through his tweets, we could see that he never shied away from sharing his opinions. Even when he was working for Chappell, Greiner didn’t hesitate to sarcastically say, “You’d think he would care about the guy that is going to help him win a championship.” This was probably from when Chappell failed to win the TOUR Championship. His X posts also tell us that he might have a brother named Jack Greiner.

However, the Caddie Network did share a beautiful moment from Greiner’s life on Instagram. They announced that the veteran caddie tied the knot back in 2023. The post had a picture of the married couple standing close to the edge of the cliff with a scenic background. The caption read, “Congratulations to Joe Greiner, caddie for @Max.Homa, on officially tying the knot in Hawaii yesterday! ❤️💍,” confirming that Joe Greiner and his partner, now Mayla Greiner, tied the knot on January 12, 2023.
