Caddies play an essential role in a gofer’s life. For Peter Uihlein, this job is done perfectly by Zach Guthrie. He is an experienced looper and has helped Uihlein make vital on-course decisions since 2022. Zach Guthrie is also the brother of former PGA Tour pro, Luke Guthrie. Zach and Luke were born to Dennis and Cindy Guthrie in Quincy, Illinois. Zach started playing and coaching golf at Western Illinois University.

Zach began his caddying career roughly in mid-2015. He did so by carrying his brother Luke’s bag. Recollecting his favorite memory of caddying for Luke, Zach said it was the 2013 BMW Shanghai Masters where “Luke nearly won against a great field and realizing how global the stage is we are competing on.”

After his stint for his brother, Zach accompanied Hunter Mahan and Tyler Duncan on the course. He spent a few years with them before joining Uihlein in 2022. One of his greatest golf memories is “winning five straight Big Ten Championships during my six-year career as the Assistant Men’s Golf Coach at the University of Illinois.”

Peter Uihlein’s caddie loves coaching so much that it would be an alternate career choice. He finds it rewarding; “Coaching because having the opportunity to influence others positively is very rewarding and needed in the world.” 

Guthrie’s favorite golfer is Tiger Woods and would be part of his ideal foursome along with his brother, Lee Trevino, and Greg Norman. He loves to caddie at the Pebble Beach Golf Links but his favorite course to play golf is 2,687.1 miles away, at the TPC Sawgrass. The greatest stroke he has ever witnessed being played was Bubba Watson’s 350-yarder on the 17th at Greenbrier.

Does Guthrie have a life beyond the greens as well? He sure does.

Zach Guthrie’s life beyond caddying

Zach Guthrie currently resides in Jacksonville, Florida. However, during off season, he enjoys staying at Ponte Vedra. He is involved with the Begin Again Foundation. His favorite movie is Tin Cup, a movie about a golfer starring Kevin Costner. He was a dedicated tweeter until 2020. Apart from his golf adventures, Guthrie has also shared pictures of his partners all over his X account. His wife’s name is Kellie Guthrie; formerly, Kellie Nelson, and the two seem to have been married since 2016.

Coming back to the course, Zach often shares videos with @caddienetwork where he shows off unique features of golf courses and posts travel vlogs of his adventures in the sport. Other than caddying, he likes to be involved in “any activity with family, fitness, golf instruction, home projects/woodworking, visiting national parks.” He has been endorsed for various skills, including public speaking, event planning, team building, and sports marketing. Other than caddying, his other professional interest lies in real estate and finance.
