Rory McIlroy & Co. are having a ball at Bethpage! The crowd in NY has been absolutely hilarious as they are getting very creative with their heckling. And it seems that McIlroy got caught in a moment where he may regret acting out.

One of the supporters shared a video of Rory walking off from one of the greens at Bethpage during the fourball matches. As he was on his way out, a fan’s taunt must have gotten on his nerves because he was seen flipping him off.
The fan who posted the video was still not sure if McIlroy was actually showing the bird or just waving at the fan, though. Hence, their caption read, “Hard to see if Rory McIlroy is waving to a fan or flipping them the bird here!”

But if he was flipping off the fans, then will he face any consequences for that? Well, the simple answer is no. It’s not uncommon for players to get caught in the heat of the moment. And with his intense battle against Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns, McIlroy might not be too eager to reciprocate to fans who indulge in casual heckling.
However, should someone cross the line, then the Irishman’s reaction may be justified. Even if Rory does face any consequences for his actions, it might be in the form of fines. But the tournament official won’t pay heed to it as long as it’s not a common occurrence.

Rory McIlroy has been getting heckled at Bethpage this week. When Rory and a few other Europeans were waiting to tee off on the third hole, he was buttoning his purple polo. A fan, took a hilarious jab at him.
“You don’t need a button to choke, Rory,” earning laughs from the crowd. Rors himself liked the effort as he said “that was a good one.”
However, Rory McIlroy’s reaction to the fan on the very first day of the 2025 Ryder Cup still comes as a surprise. Especially after he revealed a promise that he had made a few hours ago.
Has Rory McIlroy already broken his promise?
The 2023 Ryder Cup saw a lot of drama involving Patrick Cantlay. The Hatgate controversy was the highlight of the tournament as Cantlay’s silent protest, ironically, was one of the most talked-about topics from Rome. But that was not the only incident the 33-year-old was involved in while playing hatless at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club.

Cantlay’s caddie, Joe LaCava, had a huge tussle with McIlroy in Rome after the two pros competed in a match. The fight carried into the parking lot as well, where the two would have thrown hands if they weren’t stopped by others. Heading into the 2025 Ryder Cup, Luke Donald feared something similar would occur at Bethpage involving the Irishman.
With everything that has been going on between Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau since Pinehurst No. 2, everyone anticipated them locking horns at Bethpage. But when the Irishman was asked if fans can expect them to settle the score in the Ryder Cup, he revealed that he had promised the Team Europe captain that he wouldn’t cause any drama against the American side. However, judging by how quickly he lost his cool on Friday, we wonder if Rory McIlroy will be able to keep his word.
