Many fans from the older generations would argue that Tom Watson was one of the best of his time. With 39 PGA Tour wins and 8 major championships, the ex-golf pro certainly left his mark on the Tour. And with his most recent move, he now intends to create history and leave an even deeper imprint on the golf world. And it’s quite close to the home of the Masters, Augusta National, where he won his second and fifth major championship!

The future neighbor of Augusta National

Only a few miles from where Watson donned the beautiful green jacket in 1977 and 1981, he is now set to leave his mark on yet another course. The 39-time PGA Tour winner is currently building a golf course that is described as “America’s next generation masterpiece” just 4.5 miles away from the historic Augusta National.

Cypress Shoals, home of the future golf course, is a 1,742-acre property in North Augusta. Despite being so close to the home of the Masters, it is actually located across the Georgia border, in South Carolina. The property overlooks the Savannah River and will have two 18-hole courses built on it.

As per Golf Monthly’s recent report, Watson will design one of the two “masterpiece” courses. The property will also feature a 9-hole short course with teaching and practice facilities. And despite how lavish it sounds, that’s not all the new course will have to offer. Several other sporting and lifestyle activities, such as horseback riding, fishing, and shooting, will be available at the site, along with a spa and wellness center.

What else does the new course hope to offer?

In addition to all the above games and activities, the property will feature housing. The site’s plans include the construction of golf cottages, luxury cabins, residential lots, and even a riverfront hotel. Certainly, its proximity to Augusta will boost the requirements for these facilities. Fans and even players will perhaps want to own a spot right next to the home of the Masters!

Of course, the housing concept will certainly be a great hit every year in April—during the week of the Masters! It seems like its proximity to one of golf’s most historic courses is probably one of the best things the course has going for it, but whether it will work out well for it, only time will tell.
