Notorious gambler opens up about his relationship with Phil Mickelson

Golf fans at large are highly familiar with the outrageous gambling stories involving Phil Mickelson. Alan Shipnuck’s biography of the LIV pro reported that the latter had suffered over $40,000,000 in gambling-related losses! Now, a new book by renowned sports gambler Billy Walters is expected to offer more insight into Lefty’s highly controversial habits.

So, how did Mickelson and Walters come to know each other in the first place? In an interview with ViSN earlier this year, the latter shared that they had met at a pro-am event over a decade ago.

The 76-year-old also addressed the speculation that Mickelson owed him a huge sum of money. “As far as Phil owing me any money, we had a gambling relationship that lasted six years. From my perspective, I think it was more than that. I think we became friends,” he said.

The autobiography hits the shelves on August 15, and golf fans can’t keep calm. After all, the LIV player was also caught in the crossfire when Walters went to prison following an insider trading conviction. Recently, the 52-year-old golfer also got into a war of words with a golf columnist, with the latter raising questions over the equation between Mickelson and Walters.

Golf columnist puts Mickelson on blast

Earlier this month, Phil Mickelson came to fellow LIV compatriot Talor Gooch’s defense after the USGA’s recent amendment ruled the back-to-back LIV event winner out of the upcoming U.S. Open. He termed the decision a “d*ck move,” attracting the ire of Eamon Lynch, a columnist with Golfweek and USA Today Sports.

Lynch called out the golfer, referring to his complaints as “conspiracy rants” in a brand-new article. Not one to keep mum, the LIV defector also hit back. He opined that the article was nothing but a “nice piece of fiction.” Their online spat picked up further steam when Lynch highlighted Lefty’s controversial relationship with convicted sports gambler Billy Walters.

But, Mickelson appeared unbothered, even tweeting that he was cleared of all suspicions. He also offered an insight into his current relationship with Walters, saying, “BW looks great. Saw him a couple months ago.”
