Lewis Hamilton lifted his fourth world title in the 18th race of the season at the Mexican Grand Prix, but it wasn’t the easiest title the Briton has ever won. It has been a record-breaking year for the 32-year-old as he becomes only the fifth driver to win the title four times.  But since returning from his summer holidays, Hamilton has been like a man possessed while his nearest rival Sebastian Vettel has struggled to replicate his early season form. Seeing Hamilton champion isn’t surprising to many given the sheer pace of the W08.

However, in Abu Dhabi, it may have been Hamilton champion but it was Bottas who ruled the night. Mercedes wrapped up the Formula One season with a one-two finish and newly crowned world champion Lewis Hamilton had to settle for second. It was a career third win for the Finn, who had started on pole position at the Yas Marina circuit. Bottas denied Hamilton a chance his getting his 10th win of the campaign.

Bottas said “It’s a really important win for me after having a pretty difficult start to the second half of the year. This weekend, pole and win, I couldn’t be happier to end the season like this.” Sadly for F1 fans, the race was rather processional. race under the floodlights, Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel took third place to finish runner-up in a championship that Hamilton won in Mexico last month.

The final points tally was Hamilton on 363 points, Vettel on 317 and Bottas on 305 points. Mercedes have already seized the constructors’ championship for the fourth year in a row with 668 points to Ferrari’s 522. The one-two finish in Abu Dhabi was their fourth of the season.

During the race, most of the drivers pretty much finished where they started. With the exception of Daniel Ricciardo who juddered to a halt with a hydraulic problem. Renault too had a mixed day with Carlos Sainz retiring due to a loose wheel, but that pain was eased by Hulkenberg’s 6th place.
