Venus’ service speed was fast, clocking close to 190 KMPH in the first set. And from the other end, Buzarnescu was also serving well and giving a tough fight to the American. Both the players were having identical service games as the first set was intense. Venus was down one break point in her second service game, but other than that, the veteran took the set to 4-4.

From the 4-4, the opening set quickly went on to 5-5 as both the players had dominant service games. But serving at 5-5, Venus was pressured by Buzarnescu. The latter took the initial 40-15 lead in the game and had two break points. However, she was forced to surrender the lead as Venus came back to lead, 6-5. Then Buzarnescu again gave up a 40-15 lead as her opponent converted a second set point to win the first set, 7-5.

Venus denies Buzarnescu a late comeback
Venus’ serve and attention declined in the second set; the drop in intensity was enough for Buzarnescu to break the five-time Wimbledon champion in the first game itself. Venus’ serve was troubled. And Buzarnescu was close to breaking Venus for the second time in the second set. Buzarnescu later took a 3-1 lead.

From here, Buzarnescu managed good service games. Venus was decent, too, but she wasn’t attacking much. From 3-1, Buzarnescu didn’t give any chances to Venus as the latter only won four points on her serve until the end of the set. The Romanian quickly took the set, 6-4.
In the final set, Venus was back in attack mode; she was very aggressive and had winners as well as unforced errors. However, she broke Buzarnescu and took a 3-1 lead in the set. The lead soon extended to 5-1 as Venus got two breaks up and served for the match.
But Venus was broken while serving for the match, and it looked like there was one last twist. From 5-1 down, Buzarnescu came back to cut the deficit to 5-3. While serving for the match for the second time, Venus had to again save three break points. She needed three match points to convert one and won the match 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
