Tony Ferguson is one of the best fighters the UFC has got right now. A sheer determination and a never say die attitude is what has got him so far.
Speaking with his coach, Luke Thomas posed a few questions about training Tony and his unorthodox styles. Tony Ferguson has been training with Rashad Holloway since their fight against Edson Barboza. Holloway is a former professional boxer and has worked with only 2 MMA fighter, the other being Spencer Fisher.
Rashad Holloway said Tony’s style is like no other. He isn’t conditioned to fight according to a said stance or method. Tony has his ways that somehow get the job done. He draws a comparison between Tony Ferguson and boxing legend Manny Pacquiao, saying they are similar in their approach.

Speaking more about this, he said,” Tony is interesting. Tony is one of the most unorthodox guys. Tony reminds me of Manny Pacquiao. Me and Pacquiao, we used to train and spar together for years. And Pacquiao did everything wrong! The textbook he didn’t do everything correctly, the way it’s supposed to be done he didn’t. Pacquiao could be off his feet. He could be on his front leg and still hurt you. He just did things that weren’t textbook and it worked. Tony is like that.”
Now Rashad Holloway went into how Tony Ferguson compares to this unorthodox approach. How he is like no other MMA fighter out there. He said, “He’s just a freak. I don’t say it because I train him. I say it because it’s a reality. He does things they said you’re not supposed to. It works! He’s just so unorthodox, and it works for him. That’s what makes him, him!”
