On the last lap of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Mick Schumacher avoided a potentially worrying crash. The incident in question involved Haas drivers Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin. On the last lap of the race, Schumacher was charging to overtake his teammate, who decided to defend his position too aggressively. Both of the drivers were way over 300 km/h and any contact between the cars would have been disastrous.

When asked about the incident, Mazepin said, “The main reason was that I was upset that I lost my place to my teammate on the main straight. My battery was dead. So I was almost like a passenger in the car, but that’s the case.

Haas team principal Gunther Steiner came out to the defense of his driver. While referring to the incident, Steiner said, ” If we get to the situation on the straight, everything is settled there and we’ve got the situation back to normal. There have been some misunderstandings but we’re in good shape and we’re all looking forward.
