Olympic USWNT star Megan Rapinoe has been in news for her standing up for social issues. Recently, Rapinoe clinched the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Tokyo Olympics 2020 was a setback for the team as they couldn’t clinch the gold. However, the bronze was also a victory as they triumphed over the Australian team.

USA’s Megan Rapinoe is a three-time Olympian and clinched the medals in two games. Moving on from the Olympic games, Megan is starting her own book club. Rapinoe is a fiery queen on the field, but in her free time, she loves to read.

“Call In”- Megan Rapinoe’s book club

In collaboration with an Austin-based literary startup called ‘ Literati’, Megan has started her book club. The book club called the “‘Call In” is a virtual club because of the pandemic.

The aim of her book club is to address social issues and call in people who have prior knowledge. Rapinoe wants people to open up about their vulnerabilities in the club and be open to everyone’s point of view.

In conversation with Vanity Fair, Megan talked about her goals and hopes for the book club. Megan has been quite open about her views on social matters, hence she wants to aware more people about it.

“I think for a long time, because I was one of the only athletes talking about this, it was a lot of just me talking about it. And I feel like there are more intelligent people out there who are better equipped to be talking to the masses,” Megan said.

She further added, ” So I feel like I’m a conduit for that. I don’t know who let me have a book club, but they did. So I’m going to make the most of it.”

Megan Rapinoe loves to read about human experiences

Soccer star is a non-fiction lover and loves to read about human experiences. Megan personally loves the book We Were Eight Years in Power by Ta-Nehisi Coates.

Rapinoe’s first choice for the club is the famous #MeToo founder, Tarana Burke’s book Unbound. Interestingly, she herself has not read the book yet but is excited to have the book as her first reading.

The virtual book club will be indeed an interesting place for people. Megan’s club will give people a space to open up and understand the social issues in society.
