Tom Brady has immense faith in J.J. McCarthy. And the latter wants to follow in Brady’s footsteps. In fact, he already did so with his stint in Michigan. But now, McCarthy wants to go further and choose the Patriots. If any doubts were yet remaining, his confession would clear it up. “Tom and I have a great relationship. I asked him questions all throughout the season and stuff like that. I try not to bother him too much…”

“Such honor and respect like I said. I’m always about playing for the guys that came before and the guys who built the foundation to where it is right now. So, obviously being a part of the New England Patriots that means everything, you know,” McCarthy confessed to Adam Schefter on his podcast.

“Going back to when Brady was playing and how he was doing it for Teddy Bruschi and Willie McGinest and Ty Law and all those guys. Being able to pay that forward would be a tremendous honor.” Last year, while Michigan was struggling with sign stealing and cheating allegations, Brady stood in staunch support of the program and its QB. Further, when HC Jim Harbaugh labeled McCarthy as “the greatest quarterback in University of Michigan college football history,” Brady agreed with him, commenting, “Go Blue!!! No doubt!!!” But his support for the Michigan QB also extends to NIL deals. Back in Nov. 2023, McCarthy signed a deal with ‘Brady Brand’

Now Foxborough desperately needs a new, fresh era and J.J. McCarthy might be that. With McCarthy, Robert Kraft has an important decision to make! 24 years ago, the team made a similar decision with Tom Brady by drafting the Michigan QB. This decision established the Patriots as a dynasty. Now, will another Michigan quarterback, JJ McCarthy, do the same for the team? After all, he led his team to a 15-0 season and a National Championship.

But he is also a polarizing athlete. Sure, his 27-1 record as a starter is commendable. But it doesn’t seem like he has done much. His previous HC, Jim Harbaugh, would run the football as the first option. The second option was having Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards pass the ball. So people haven’t seen much of McCarthy’s passing plays. However, his performance at the Scouting Combine and Michigan’s Pro Day bolstered his stock.

The team will have to make a careful decision, though. After all, the Patriots previously tried Mac Jones, and it went horribly wrong. A promising rookie year in 2021 crashed later on. HC Jerod Mayo is looking for that ultimate face to kick off the post-Bill Belichick era in style. It is decades’ worth of legacy at stake. While they continue contemplating their decision with mere hours left for the NFL draft, JJ McCarthy, the Michigan QB, has given them the reason to draft him.

McCarthy already has an idea of the load of expectations and pressure that would follow if the Patriots say his name at No.3 since his visit to Gillette Stadium as a part of a top-30 visit. Even though McCarthy’s affinity for the Patriots might be a mutual affair per multiple sources, they still have a threat looming above them: The Commanders.

Where will J.J. McCarthy end up?

While many analysts are considering J.J. McCarthy as the Patriots’ #3 pick-a-done deal, the impressive numbers he put on display at the NFL Combine week, have created interest within other teams as well. The Commanders have the #2 pick in the 2024 Draft and could pick draft McCarthy before the Patriots. The Commanders’ leadership believes that analytics should drive their decisions.

And according to Jason La Canfora’s report from ‘The Washington Post’, this belief could lead the team to pick McCarthy. “Two general managers told me they believe that if the Washington Commanders let the analytics guide them, McCarthy is their guess for the No. 2 pick.” However, the team may also consider Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye.

Beyond the Commanders, the LA Raiders may also be looking to draft McCarthy with another ‘Michigan connection’ at work. While HC Jim Harbaugh is not lacking in the QB department with Justin Herbert, with the amount of praise he has hoisted on McCarthy, the Raiders could end up being his new home.

The Vikings and the Broncos are also QB-needy teams heading into the draft and may take a chance on McCarthy if he still hasn’t been snapped up by the time their picks come. What’s your projection on J.J. McCarthy’s landing spot? Let us know in the comments.
