“I’m Devastated”: Andy Murray Reveals Disheartening News About His Australian Open 2021 Participation

Former World No.1 Andy Murray has announced shocking news today. The British player has ruled himself out of the Australian Open 2021.
In a statement, Murray was gutted that he couldn’t travel to Australia for the Australian Open. Murray had contracted the coronavirus when he was about to leave for the Australian Open 2021 bubble.
“Gutted to share that I won’t be flying out to Australia to compete at the Australian Open,” Murray said.

Andy Murray and the Australian Open tried their best to find solutions
He revealed that he was in constant touch with the Australian Open organizers, but everyone couldn’t find a solution. As he contracted the coronavirus, it messed his quarantine schedule and thus no solution was attained.
“We’ve been in constant dialogue with Tennis Australia to try and find a solution which would allow some form of workable quarantine, but we couldn’t make it work.”

Nevertheless, Murray thanked everybody in Australia and mentioned that it is his favorite country to travel and play in.
“I want to thank everyone there for their efforts, I’m devastated not to be playing out in Australia. It’s a country and tournament that I love.”
Murray’s last Australian Open appearance came back in 2019. Since then, he has had injury troubles, and this year he even received a wildcard as his rankings weren’t good enough to directly qualify for the main draw.

All players going to the Aussie Open 2021 were scheduled to fly to the country on January 15th and 16th to serve their mandatory quarantine. But, Andy Murray tested positive for COVID-19 just before those dates and thus canceled his plans. However, there was a ray of hope that he could travel later on January 28th.
The Australian Open 2021 starts on February 8th and there were talks that somehow his quarantine could fit in after Jan 28th. But, now this solution didn’t materialize.

Murray is a five-time runner-up at the Australian Open, and his stature in the game is still high despite his turbulent spell over the last three years. Let’s hope he recovers well and joins the season after a few weeks.
