“I’m Really Sorry About Your Loss DC” – When Jon Jones Tried to Console Daniel Cormier

Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier have had one of the fiercest and most passionate rivalries in the UFC. Their feud has been emotionally, mentally, and physically taxing. All in all, from a viewer and fan’s perspective, it was one of the most exhilarating rivalries to come out of the promotion.

Daniel Cormier went up against Jon Jones inside the octagon at UFC 214. This was the last time the two fighters fought. Jon Jones walked out as the winner with the UFC light-heavyweight belt wrapped around him.

But that wasn’t the only thing to switch hands that night. Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier ended their beef that night as well. Jones, in his post-fight in-ring talk, appreciated Cormier for his stand up performance and keeping Jones on his toes throughout their rivalry.

“I want to take this time to thank Daniel Cormier for being my biggest rival and motivator. Daniel Cormier guys he has absolutely no reason to hang his head. He has been a model champion, a model husband, and a father, a model teammate, and a leader.

“I aspire to be a lot more like that man because he is an amazing human being. Unfortunately, we were opponents, but outside of that he is a true champion for the rest of his life,” Jones said.

Those were some honest and inspiring words from Jones. He ended all beef with Cormier and called the man out on his brilliance.

Once again reaching out to Cormier in his weakest moments, Jones reached out to Cormier on the passing of his father, offering words of condolences and support.

“All beef aside, I’m really sorry about your loss DC. Know that he’s in heaven with the opportunity to watch you front row and center for the rest of your life. Continue living a life that makes him proud. Thoughts go out to you and your family today,” Jon Jones wrote on Twitter.

This is one of the best examples of how true sportsmen respect one another. It shows that fighters often beef just to increase the marketability of the fight. At the end of the day, they have the utmost respect and empathy for their compatriots.
