“I’m Used To It” – Tom Brady Shrugs Off Coach Bruce Arians’ Public Criticism

It is no secret that Tom Brady and his Tampa Bay Buccaneers did not live up to expectations in their campaign opener against the New Orleans Saints. Drew Brees led his team to a 34-23 win on Sunday at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Brady, in particular, failed to fire on all cylinders at his Tampa Bay debut. He completed 23 of his 36 attempted passes and threw two interceptions. He threw his third consecutive pick-six in the league and is now in line to match Matt Schaub’s record of four.
Coach Bruce Arians admitted that this was just ‘Round 1’ of the season. However, he did not hold back when questioned about Brady’s performance.

Tom Brady painted a frustrated picture after his side’s dismal outing against the New Orleans Saints last Sunday. Coach Bruce Arians did not hold back in his assessment of Brady in the post-match presser. He said some things which some critics branded as too ‘harsh’.
“He looked like Tom Brady in practice all the time so it’s kind of unusual to see that in a ballgame because they didn’t do things that we didn’t get ready for. Everything they did we thought we were ready for,” Arians said via Rick Stroud.

In his 20 years playing for the Patriots under coach Belichick, not once was Brady criticized in the public eye. Belichick was infamous for his ‘boiler room talks’ in the dressing room. This is definitely something new for the 43-year-old. But he doesn’t seem to be too fazed by it either.

The veteran coach spoke about his experienced wide receiver, Mike Evans as well. “We got to do a better job when we play the Saints of getting Mike in different positions. I think we let him sit there on the backside too much last week and it’s something we’re going to have to address when we play them later on again. … I never want to come out of a game without 10 targets to Mike, at least,” Arians told The Tampa Bay Times.

Evans was dealing with a hamstring niggle before the game against New Orleans. However, he was declared fit and started the opener alongside teammate Chris Godwin. Let’s hope that Arians will be able to rely upon his services in the home clash against NFC South opponents, Carolina Panthers.
