Canadian tennis player, Eugenie Bouchard looks set to skip the Jalisco Open in Guadalajara. As it turns out, she contracted a upper respiratory illness according to a source on Twitter.

Bouchard last played in the Indian Wells 2019 tournament but was knock out in the first round. She lost to Belgian tennis player Kirsten Flipkens in three sets. The final score read, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 in Flipkens’ favour.

However, she needed 2 hours and 36 minutes to subdue the 25-year old Canadian. With this victory under her belt, Flipkens will next face Danielle Collins, who got a bye.

Flipkens had to use everything in her arsenal to clinch the opener as Bouchard put up a fight. The Canadian drew level twice, and even broke Flipkens twice in the second set. The deciding set alone lasted more than an hour as the two battled on.

Flipkens was serving for the match at 5-4 but Bouchard broke her again. However, the 33-year old held her nerve and went on to win the last two games and seal the victory 7-5 3-6 7-5.
